Community Service

For local radio and television stations, community service is more than a passing concern. It is a way of doing business.

Every day in Michigan, from Detroit to Escanaba and everywhere in between, broadcasters are going to bat for community charities, educating residents about important local issues, delivering life-saving information in times of disaster, and continually renewing their commitment to their communities.

One of the main missions of the MAB is to help their members serve their communities better. In doing that we seek out issues and individual lawmakers to help identify issues and educate listeners and viewers on the important issues through the airing of public service announcements. Links to PSAs are provided for our members convenience.

No other industry has the impact on local communities like free over-the-air broadcasting. Michigan radio and television stations understand the importance of community service.

Each year, the MAB assists the state and other select non-profit organizations by endorsing campaigns and encouraging member stations to promoting these campaigns. In general, the MAB helps facilitate statewide attention to the issue. MAB works with state officials to identify the most pressing social problems.

MAB has assisted a number of organizations and issues throughout the years. Programs the MAB has been involved in include: Tie One On (MADD), Governor’s Coalition on Underage Drinking, Breast Cancer Awareness through American Cancer Society, Michigan Week, Michigan Sesquicentennial, Michigan Council on Physical Fitness, Get Michigan Moving and Children’s Trust Fund..

MAB member radio and television stations individually provide a tremendous amount of free programming and community service. Each station understands the importance of serving their specific community. Stations work hard at identifying local issues and providing free air time and assisting with many non-profit agencies in their communities.
